The Winter Warriors played their final round of Aberdeen Indoor Premier League fixtures this afternoon. Despite only having 6 players the team pushed hard in both games coming up 15 runs short vs the Maratha Warriors and tying a thriller against Stoneywood Stormers.
Muzammil, on debut, was the pick of the bowlers against Maratha, taking an impressive 2-15. This included bowling the dangerous Nikhil Shindgikar (35) as Maratha finished on 86-4. Ravi (27) and Will (18) started the chase off calmy reaching 43 without loss after 3.4 overs. Alas, following a mini-collapse and despite the best efforts of the swash buckling Muzammil (19), the Warriors ran out of batters finishing 15 runs short.
Muzammil (2-11) was the star bowler again in the 2nd fixture against Stoneywood Stormers. Thanks to his two tight overs and a strong effort in the field The Stormers were all out for 78. The chase started poorly this time. Both openers were bowled in the pacey Elliot's first over. The Warriors were shaking on 12-2. Step forth Ravi (41) who hit two sixes in the penultimate over leaving just two runs required from six balls to secure victory.
The first ball of the final over was a wide. With the scores level Ravi feathered an edge through to the keeper and the game ended in a tie. Such are the highs and lows of cricket...
Thanks to all the teams who took part in the tournament and to all those who worked hard behind the scenes to make it happen. May the best team win in the final!
Our attentions now move to the spring and outdoor cricket...not long to wait!
See you all in April.
